A big cabinet with wood carved decorations has been requested by a relation.
These cabinets were already manufactured in the 17th century, mostly on assignment by rich and royalty.
In the 19th century a true revival of these cabinet took place. After the 17th century examples, cabinets in the same style were manufactured again.
The client now looking for a Renaissance cabinet prefers a cabinet from the original period, the 17th century. There will be a considerable price difference from the 19th century ‘copies’.
The cabinet I show you on this image, also called a ‘Keeftkast’, has been manufactured ca 1680.
The wood carved decorations are very detailed putti’s, flowers and branches. The doors have bow shaped decorations. The Corinthic pillars have capitals on top. At both sides of the cabinet, a small drawer can be pulled out. Originally, candles were put on these drawers. Very special are the wood carved decorations inside.
